Frequently asked questions
What OET score do I need to pass?
There is no single passing score — each regulatory board and employer sets its own requirement. Most nursing and medical boards ask for Grade B (350–440) in each of the four sub-tests, while some accept Grade C+ (300–340) in one or more sections. Always confirm the exact requirement with your board.
What is OET Grade B?
Grade B corresponds to a numerical score of 350–440 out of 500. It reflects a high level of English able to communicate effectively in a healthcare environment, and it is the level most commonly required for registration.
How is the OET scored?
Each of the four sub-tests — Listening, Reading, Writing, and Speaking — is scored separately on a scale from 0 to 500. Your score report shows both the numerical score and the letter grade (A–E) for each sub-test. There is no single combined grade.
